With this specialty beer, we wanted to pause for a moment to tell a completely different story; a necessary tale based on marine biodiversity, ecology, and absolute respect for our natural environment. Posidonia oceanica is the most valuable and sacred submerged treasure in Altea Bay, originally named in honor and reverence of the Greek god of the oceans, Poseidon himself. To put it into vital scientific and environmental context: the amount of CO2 captured and stored by a single Posidonia oceanica meadow is significantly greater than that performed by a tropical forest of the same land area. It is, therefore, our most powerful natural agent against climate change and the greatest refuge of biodiversity for the marine species on our coast. Incidentally, it is worth remembering that posidonia is not a common alga, but an evolved higher plant that has its own roots, stems, leaves, showy flowers, and seeds. In autumn, its leaves naturally fall, and currents carry them to the shore, forming the characteristic wrack lines on the sand that critically help conserve beaches against wave erosion. Posidonia is our humble liquid tribute and our cry for the preservation of the sea's blue forests, the refuge of biodiversity, and the true lung of our beloved Mediterranean.
