Althaia beers are brewed in Altea, one of the most well-known and visited towns on the Costa Blanca, thanks to its many charms. Every year, especially during the summer months, thousands of national and international tourists come to explore its old town and cool off on its beaches.
Althaia takes its name from the toponym Altea, which in Greek means "I cure" or "I heal." There are many things to do in Altea: walk its cobbled streets, enjoy water sports in the bay such as kayaking, sailing or diving, hiking and adventure sports in the Bernia mountain range, or recharge your batteries in the restaurants of the old town. But whether you're on a getaway to Altea, coming for a season, or living here, we propose a different plan: visit a brewery in Altea with a guided tasting.
What do the visits to the Althaia brewery in Altea consist of?
It doesn't matter if you are a beer enthusiast with advanced knowledge or a newcomer who wants to learn a little more about brewing, we are sure that our guided factory tour accompanied by a beer tasting will impress everyone. Firstly, because it takes place in our new factory in Altea, a welcoming and modern industrial-style building, with the latest technology in beer production without abandoning traditional recipes, almost entirely powered by solar energy. Secondly, because you will taste the most awarded beers in the Valencian Community and some of the most recognized nationally, with an incredible variety of distinct styles, both classic and more daring and groundbreaking.
Our guided brewery tours are organized in groups of a maximum of 30 people to ensure that all attendees participate and experience it in a close and familiar atmosphere. In the first part, we will visit the facilities and the production line, inaugurated in the summer of 2021, which has allowed us to multiply our production capacity to meet the growing demand we have been experiencing. During this phase, we will see step by step how Althaia beers are made, using 100% natural ingredients such as Altea's own water; top-quality malts like the British Simpsons; high-quality hops, which give that characteristic bitterness; and yeasts, responsible for carbonating the beer and turning it into an alcoholic beverage.
Once we know the four fundamental ingredients, we will show you the brewing process in situ, where these ingredients are recombined through a series of processes such as malt mashing, hop boiling, natural filtering, fermentation, or aging in lagering tanks or barrels, among others, to obtain our delicious beers and their wide variety of styles, mainly divided into Lager and Ale, whose differences we will also explain during the guided brewery tour.
After the brewery tour, we will move on to our Tap Room bar. A unique space with a terrace and views of the factory. There, we will taste 4 different Althaia Beers, served directly from our factory barrels and paired with a selection of cheeses and cold cuts, accompanied by exquisite bread, always finishing with a dark beer paired with a homemade cookie for dessert. In this phase, we will also guide you, challenging your senses to discover hidden notes like true beer sommeliers.
The approximate duration of the entire activity is one and a half to two hours, and it is available in both Spanish and English. We are located in Altea, a few kilometers from Alicante, and very close to Benidorm, Calpe, La Nucía, or Albir. Children can accompany adults on the visit free of charge.
