Our sense of taste evolves throughout the year depending on the climate and temperatures, and our body craves different foods as the seasons change. For example, with the arrival of cold weather in autumn and especially winter, stews, grilled meats, baked dishes, and spicier sauces are common, while in spring and summer we tend to opt for salads, cold cuts, or fried fish.
To enjoy these dishes, or simply to share good times with friends, there are recommended beers for every time of year. Unlike the uniform trend of commercial or industrial beer markets, which generally lack variety and offer unique or very limited options, at Althaia we have been developing a complete range of options for years, to be enjoyed in every context and season, all characterized by their high quality and careful brewing.
In this month's entry, we want to tell you which Althaia beers are ideal to accompany you throughout the year, although remember that this is a guide and you can enjoy any of them at any time of the year.
Based on their style, alcohol content, structure, and aromatic nuances, these are the ones you shouldn't miss each season and some of their ideal pairings.
- Blonde Ale: its freshness and lightness make it the ideal candidate for summer, although its easy drinkability and pairing allow us to enjoy it all year round.
- Heliodora: it is the star beer of summer, a refreshing and tart sour, which, along with the citrus and fruity notes of blood orange and its low alcohol content, makes it the perfect beer to quench your thirst. For more adventurous palates looking to take a step further in beer culture.
- Cap Blanc: Its name pays homage to a Mediterranean coastal area of Altea, so it is perfect for summer due to its session style (low alcohol content) and its refreshing effect, although it is also a perfect starter for any time of year. Fruity and floral with that bitterness that helps quench thirst.
- Sidama: The high-quality Ethiopian coffee used in its brewing gives this beer a multitude of options to be enjoyed as a summer beer, just like we would have a cold coffee, or in the autumn season to accompany homemade desserts.
- Brown Ale: the beer you can't miss in autumn due to its mocha and nutty nuances. An authentic British Brown Ale with caramel and roasted malts. We recommend it for your next barbecue, or accompanying a sauté of porcini, saffron milk cap, or button mushrooms.
-
Rabosa: the perfect beer for autumn, due to its blend of spices and pumpkin so typical of this season. It reminds us of the arrival of cold weather and invites us to drink calmly, letting ourselves be carried away by its flavor and essence. Perfect for combining with seasonal products such as cheeses, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, white meats...
- Mascarat: Especially appealing in autumn or winter due to its dark color and the notes provided by the roasted malts, along with the resins from the hops. The added rye and the silkiness it imparts will make you love it with complex pairings such as blue cheese, any type of meat, or even as a dessert.
- Barlovento: A beer to drink with a blanket, in autumn or winter, savoring the smoky notes and the particularity of the tonka bean that evoke the delight and tranquility of deeper and more unexpected flavors. Its intensity of flavor, dark color, and opulent and structured body invite pairing with strong cheeses or desserts.
- Cap Negret: a beer to be enjoyed preferably in autumn and winter due to its Oatmeal Stout style, with an aroma of toasted grains and a slight creaminess on the palate. Its black color and full body make it ideal for meats, as an accompaniment to desserts, or for toasting with friends in true British style.
- Barlovento Barrica: Its three months in barrels give it even greater maturity and structure. Accentuated smoky aromas to pair with the same dishes proposed earlier during cold periods such as autumn or winter. To be enjoyed calmly.
-
Winter Ale: as its name indicates, it is the winter or Christmas beer par excellence. Its spicy nuances recall Christmas sweets made with spices or jams. Surprise everyone this Christmas by bringing it as a dessert, accompanied by nougat, panettone, or with a scoop of ice cream.
- Siroco: Its 3-month barrel aging softens the hoppy notes, giving way to the caramel and complexity provided by the malt. All of this makes it an ideal candidate to be enjoyed by the fire and paired with the contrast of a sweet treat or with stronger flavors that complement it, such as intense cheeses or cured meats during winter.
- IPA: our IPA is recommended at any time of the year, although we can associate its fruity and floral perfume with spring. Get the most out of it by combining it with spicy or seasoned pairings.
- Bitácora: Another year-round beer, although we will get the most out of it in spring. Its fruity and floral aromas with bitter touches are perfect for pairing with intense flavors. Perfect for sharing with friends.
-
Costa Este: similar to Bitácora, with a predominance of citrus aromas due to the large amount of hops used in dry hopping (extra hop addition post-fermentation). This achieves floral aromas and a silky texture that is ideal for accompanying burgers, light meats, and spicy dishes in spring.
-
Mistral: A fresh, fruity, and floral IPA, but with an extra intensity, all perfectly balanced with hops. A versatile pairing beer, but especially with powerful and stew-like flavors, or simply with a side of pickles, so you will find its aromas accentuated especially in late autumn or early spring.
As you can see, there is a beer for every moment and also for every time of the year. What is your favorite style? Tell us about your best moments with an Althaia beer and who you shared them with
