PINK BOOTS SOCIETY SPAIN PRESENTS TWO COLLABORATIVE BEERS TO HIGHLIGHT WOMEN WORKING IN THE BEER INDUSTRY

• It's part of Collaboration Brew Day, an international initiative that will be introduced in various events in Spain between March 5 and 14.
• The two beers created for the occasion, High Gravity and Alewife, can be tasted in various breweries in Barcelona, Valencia, Castellón, Alicante, Segovia and Pamplona.

The Spanish chapter of the Pink Boots Society (PBS), made up of women who work professionally in craft beer production, will highlight the role of women in this industry in the coming days with the production, distribution, and tasting of two collaboratively created beers, on the occasion of International Women's Day. Various breweries in Barcelona, Valencia, Castellón, Alicante, Segovia, and Pamplona will host these tastings where the public can sample two specialties prepared jointly by the Spanish members of PBS.

According to Jing Chen, president of the Pink Boots Society in Spain, for the first time we are joining Collaboration Brew Day by collaboratively brewing two beers. "It means each member contributes a part, and we all share the creation and dissemination of the beers. In this case, two members have lent their brewery facilities, others have traveled for the brewing process, some have handled promotional materials, and all of us are committed to advocating for the role of women in the beer world."

Regarding the ingredients, each year PBS selects the hops that will be used and, therefore, will characterize the beers made for International Women's Day. For 2018, the chosen hops are Palisade®, Simcoe®, Mosaic®, Citra® and Loral®. The goal is for all beers created for this purpose to have a similar style, although there is complete freedom in the recipe and the resulting beers are very different from each other. For the brewing of the beers, the selfless collaboration of some sponsors such as Lallemand, Agronet, Simpson malts, Apiglass, As was relied upon.

The specialties created for this occasion are two IPAs with very distinct characteristics. On one hand, the one called High Gravity, brewed at Black Lab (Barcelona) is a session IPA, blonde, with 3.6% ABV. It is heavily hopped in aroma and has a sustained bitterness. The beer has aromas of white bread and citrus and fruity notes.

On the other hand, we have Alewife, brewed at Cervezas Althaia Artesana (Altea, Alicante), a Red IPA style with 6.7% ABV. Its name pays homage to the so-called "Alewives," a term coined in 12th-century England, referring to women who dedicated themselves to brewing their own beer as a profession and livelihood.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of these two varieties will go towards funding the organization's activities in Spain. One of the most important will be PBS Spain's participation in the Barcelona Beer Festival where several meetings and tastings will take place between March 16 and 18.
