We're celebrating 5 years thanks to you

Next Friday, August 9th, we are holding a very special event in the Plaza del Convent in Altea to celebrate Althaia turning 5 years old with all of you. We've come this far thanks to the trust you place in our brand every day. Today, we'd like to take you on a (brief) journey through the brand's history, where it stands today, and what new developments you'll find very soon.

Althaia was born five years ago as a personal project of Jorge Sánchez, who managed to turn his passion into a vocation. A few years before the creation of the brewery, Jorge started making beer at home as a hobby. He had always loved beer and all the culture behind this drink. His curiosity led him to want to know and learn more and to create his own recipes. When Jorge met Mayte, the world of craft beer was beginning to establish itself in Spain, and the first breweries were starting to emerge. Mayte came from the wine world; her experience came from other family projects that had, over time, gained a name and prestige. Both were passionate about production, creation, flavors, aromas, colors, and the magic of fermented beverages. What for many was just a dream or an illusion, they saw as the possibility of creating a future and a life project. To work every day to make the best possible beers. Althaia is the name of the brewery, but it has a clear meaning. It is the ancient name of the town of Altea, located in the province of Alicante and with a strong Mediterranean character. A word that comes from Greek and refers to the concept "I heal." For us, that is exactly what craft is: natural beer, which feels good and is made with care, with the best ingredients, without additives. And at the same time, it symbolizes that they are local beers. The brand's goal has always been to create a beer culture and, above all, local consumption. That is why when developing the recipes for the different beers, the final consumer is always thought of as oneself, and we ask ourselves the question "what would I like to drink now?". That is why in Althaia we imbue a Mediterranean spirit in all our beers, a trait that has ended up becoming the hallmark of each one to be fresh and genuine, just like the Mediterranean character itself.

Our main objective is to produce quality beers, established as a local and consolidated product. Currently, Althaia is the most awarded brewery in the Valencian Community, with 21 national and international medals from 2016 to the present. These recognitions have contributed to our beers being better known and recognized, and in turn, to the consolidation of a beer culture. Participating in competitions and contests aims to put the quality of the presented beers to the test and verify their quality with a professional jury. That is why at Cervezas Althaia we only participate in competitions where the judges are certified and specialized in beer.

The brand started with basic equipment, and today we have improved and modernized our facilities and invested in their growth. But soon we hope to take a big leap and move to a new location. We will improve the facilities so that our beers can be in constant evolution, and we will accompany it with a space dedicated exclusively to our customers. The brewery will be more accessible, we will expand our services, and we will include a taproom where you can enjoy our fresh beers directly from the barrel, as well as a Beer Garden in the purest Althaia style. In short, a new space to fully immerse yourself in the world of craft beer.

Cervezas Althaia enjoyed a very good reception practically from its beginnings, and its subsequent trajectory has been even better. In the province of Alicante, for example, Althaia can be found in the most renowned restaurants, even those awarded with Michelin Stars. But also in bars and establishments for all audiences. Our consumers have grown with us. But the most important thing for us is to feel part of a large family that grows with us. The craft or independent beer sector in Spain, more than a sector, is a community. It may be due to its nascent trajectory, or to the nature of brewers like us, but the truth is that we feel that we have grown and continue to grow together. We support each other, give advice, collaborate, coexist at fairs and events, here and abroad. The atmosphere in the craft beer sector in Spain enjoys excellent health.

Today, our beers have crossed our borders and conquered territories such as Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, and Norway. Export is not a priority, but it is a reward and recognition of our work. Proof of this is that Cervezas Althaia is one of the few craft beer brands that can be purchased at Vinomonopolet, the monopoly that manages alcohol sales in Norway. — All the progress we have told you about has been thanks to consumers and friends who have trusted in our quality and philosophy.
