IPA beer, the trendy beer?

Cerveza IPA, ¿la cerveza de moda?

Lately you may have heard about IPA beer, the trendy beer. Maybe you don't know what kind of beer it is. Don't worry, at Cervezas Althaia we'll tell you. Plus, our IPA won the Gold Medal for best IPA in Spain at the Madrid Brew Competition.

What is an IPA beer?

IPA is the acronym for India Pale Ale. It's a beer style with a high concentration of hops that gives it a high alcohol content, between 5º and 7º, a certain bitterness, intense aromas, and complex flavors on the palate. Its origin is interesting. It dates back to the voyages between Asia and Europe of the British East India Company. They needed a beer that could withstand the difficult conditions of the journeys, and they achieved this by increasing the percentage of hops, as it has antiseptic and preservative properties, thus raising the alcohol content.

The key to IPA beer is hops. Hops are the key ingredient that gives IPA these unique characteristics. At first, it might be an acquired taste; you might find it too intense, but as you try it, you'll get used to it, and other types of beers might even seem bland to you.

Our IPA beer: Mediterranean IPA

At Cervezas Althaia, we want to offer you that craft beer you'll remember and want to share with your friends. That's why we've created this IPA beer with the best of tradition, but adapted to our Mediterranean style. Althaia's Mediterranean IPA has an alcohol content of 6.5%, 55 IBUs, a bright, honey-colored appearance, and a compact, persistent white head. Its aroma is intense and fresh with tropical fruits because we use hops in dry hopping. Its flavor is fresh, tropical, and resinous due to the different types of American hops that perfectly balance with the combination of malts.

This type of fruity and slightly bitter beer pairs perfectly with foods such as red meats, oily fish, strong cheeses, and all kinds of spicy dishes.

If you want to try a beer that won't leave you indifferent, the Mediterranean IPA will be your best choice. Oh! And don't forget Mistral: our double IPA. This one is perfect for pairing with stews or spicy foods, cured cheeses, red meats, etc.
