Last Saturday, May 18, within the framework of the BeerMad fair in Madrid, Althaia IPA won the Gold Medal at the Madrid Brew Competition. BeerMad is one of the most important fairs in the country and a benchmark in the brewing world, which this year held its V edition.
With this, our Althaia IPA already has 4 medals, one of the first recipes we made and which has gradually won the hearts of our consumers. Our beers have now accumulated a total of 20 awards in both national and international competitions in which we have participated.

We still remember when, more than 4 years ago, a genuine American couple entered our brewery, a little disoriented and speaking Spanish with a rather Yankee accent, asking us if we had any IPA-style beer. Coincidentally, our IPA was about to be released, and they were the first to try it and congratulate us. We knew that a good beer was about to hit the market.
That is why at Althaia we are delighted with this recognition. Althaia IPA is part of our history; it was one of the first recipes we created and which we continue to make with the same care, but with everything we have learned.
In an increasingly expert and demanding market, where there is more competition every day and new beers are constantly being released, being awarded for an established reference is a great achievement and a declaration of intent on our part. We will continue to create new products, but our IPA is already an icon of the brand that we hope to continue making forever.
What makes American IPAs so special?
Today, it is the most prized style in the brewing world, both by experts and by those who are just starting out in this wonderful world. These are beers where maximum expressiveness is given to hops, which provides the beer with an additional nuance of aromas and flavors due to techniques such as Dry Hopping, granting unique touches such as tropical fruits, citrus, or herbal and resinous aromas.
But of course, hops are not everything in a beer. For a beer to be enjoyable, all parameters must be carefully managed. The water, the malt combinations that make it round and appetizing, the ideal yeast to enhance the desired nuances, and the perfect hop blend for each recipe. We add a little bit of care and love throughout the process and voilà: we get an excellent (and awarded) beer.
Furthermore, starting next month, this beer will be part of the MarketSurvey promotion: tasting six-packs of the winning beers (gold, silver, and bronze) will be created and sold in AMTEC association stores. These six-packs will include a QR code that will direct to an online form. With the results obtained from this form, a market study will be carried out. The objective is for consumers, in addition to specialized judges, to evaluate the beers and thereby bring us closer to their tastes and preferences. To further motivate participation in this study, buyers who complete the questionnaire will participate in a raffle.
